Larkspur Residence

Renovation and Additions

Originally a cottage with a long stairway extending to the street, the clients visualized re-ordering the interior spaces and adding square footage where necessary without destroying the original character of the building. A one story residence with an existing unfinished basement, the design utilizes pyramid shaped elements protruding into the attic over the living and dining spaces. Painted wood paneling in the pyramids and elsewhere, ceiling fans along with extensive antique Indonesian furnishings evoke the colonial southeastern Asian feeling in the main living spaces. Removal of many interior walls allowed the spaces to feel larger, yet be visually separated by carefully placed columns and the pyramid elements. The basement area was enlarged by excavation and finished as a loft studio styled space as a guest room.
